Join our expertly-led tour following in the footsteps of Wing Commander Guy Gibson’s 617 Squadron of the Royal Air Force in Operation 'CHASTISE', the audacious bombing raid to destroy three dams east of the Ruhr Valley on the night of 16-17 May 1943. These dams were attacked with a specially-designed 'bouncing bomb' and on our tour you will visit each of the three targets: the Möhne, Eder, and Sorpe dams.

We are pleased to offer this two-day tour following in the footsteps of 617 Squadron of the Royal Air Force in Operation 'Chastise'. This audacious bombing raid took place on the night of 16-17 May 1943, and our expert battlefield historian will lead you around each of them telling you the story of what happened.

Day 1:

You are collected by our expert battlefield historian at 09:00 form Dortmund Airport.

Our battlefield historian will drive you to the Möhne dam where he will tell you about the forming of 617 Squadron RAF and introduce you to Operation CHASTISE. The remainder of the day is spent exploring the area in the company of our battlefield historian as you walk the ground and visit the sites in the vicinity associated with the Dambusters Raid.

Lunch will be available to purchase at one of the nearby café restaurants, and you will spend the night at the Haus Delecke overlooking the Möhnesee.

Day 2:

Our expert battlefield historian will meet you in the reception of the Haus Delecke at 09:00. Your second day will be spent walking the ground and exploring the Eder and Sorpe dam areas.

You begin at Schloss Waldeck, overlooking the Edersee and dam, where our battlefield historian will begin recounting the story of the bombing of the Eder dam.

Following lunch at one of the nearby café restaurants, our battlefield historian will drive you to the Sorpe dam and tell you the story of what happened there.

It is then on to Arnsberg, to talk about what 617 Squadron did after the Dams Raid, before returning to Dortmund Airport where your tour ends at approximately 18:00.

  • Pick-up and drop-off at Dortmund Airport.
  • Six people touring.
  • Travel in a dedicated tour vehicle driven by our expert battlefield historian.
  • Two people sharing a twin room.

A single supplement of £110.00 applies.

Accommodation the night before and night after your tour in Dortmund is an optional extra and can be pre-booked if required.

Costs may vary from those shown above due to associated cost variations at the time of booking.

An additional supplement may apply for anniversary dates to cover any increase in the associated costs.

A deposit of 30% or £200.00 per person, whichever is the greater, is payable on booking.
