Anniversary Small Group Tour

Join our tour commemorating the 208th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo and attend some of the events
commemorating this epic battle.
Our Waterloo Anniversary tour will combine commemorative activity with a comprehensive tour of the
Waterloo Campaign. You will visit the battlefields at Ligny and Quatre Bras as well as those along the
Mont St Jean Ridge near Waterloo including: La Belle Alliance, Hougoumont, Wellington's Ridge, and
Plancenoit.
Discover the incredible story behind the Waterloo Campaign that took place between 16 and 18 June 1815,
which saw Napoleon achieve his last victory and then saw him defeated by the Allied armies commanded by
the Duke of Wellington and Generalfeldmarschall von Blücher.

You meet your Battlefield Historian at the Stop 24 Folkestone Services at 10:00 hrs before travelling to
Waterloo via the Eurotunnel crossing between Folkestone and Calais. Our scheduled departure is 11:20 hrs
and we are due to arrive in Calais at 13:00 hrs. From Calais we head to Brussels where we check into our
tour hotel.
The evening is spent at your leisure either in your hotel or local area.
Friday, 16 June 2023
Your Battlefield Historian will meet you in the reception of your tour hotel at 09:00 hrs. Today, we
concentrate on the fighting in and around Ligny between Napoleon’s French and Blücher’s Prussians,
before heading to Quatre Bras to discuss Marshal Ney’s French and the Anglo-Dutch forces commanded by
the Prince of Orange.
The evening is spent at your leisure either in your hotel or local area.
Saturday, 17 June 2023 *
Your Battlefield Historian will meet you in the reception of your tour hotel at 09:00 hrs. Today will be
spend at an event(s) commemorating the 208th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo and you will return
to your hotel at approximately 17:30 hrs.
The evening is spent at your leisure either in your hotel or local area.
Sunday 18 June 2023 *
Your Battlefield Historian will meet you in the reception of your tour hotel at 09:00 hrs. Today is spent
exploring the battlefield at Waterloo. We begin at La Belle Alliance to get Napoleon's view of the
battlefield before moving to the French ridge overlooking Hougoumont. There we discuss the advance of
Lieutenant General Count Honoré Charles Michel Joseph Reille's French II Army Corps’ advance against the
British right wing and the farm before dropping down to Hougoumont itself.
From Hougoumont we head to the Waterloo Visitor's Centre, where we climb the Butte du Lion to get a
bird's eye view of the battlefield. We then see the excellent 360 Panorama before walking the short
distance to overlook the battlefield and discuss the advance by the French I Army Corps commanded by
Lieutenant General Jean Baptiste Drouet, Count d'Erlon. After discussing the advance and subsequent
charge by the British Heavy Cavalry we take a gentle walk to La Haye Sainte where we discuss the defence
by the King's German Legion. We then cross the battlefield to the site of the Mercer Memorial where we
discuss the role played by Captain Mercer's Battery during the charge of the French Cavalry and the
reaction of the British to the advance of Napoleon’s Old Guard.

Monday, 19 June 2023
Your Battlefield Historian will meet you at the reception of your tour hotel at approximately 09:00 hrs.
This morning, we head back to the battlefield to turn our attention to the arrival of the Prussians and
the effect that they had on the battle. We discuss their appearance on the battlefield and the desperate
fighting that took place, initially between the Prussians and Lieutenant General Lobau's French VI Army
Corps and later the Battalions of the French Young Guard, for the control of Plancenoit. We then return
once more to La Belle Alliance to discuss the stand of the Old Guard and Napoleon's subsequent flight
from the battlefield, which is where we will end our tour.
After visiting Plancenoit and La Belle Alliance, we begin our journey back to Calais where we catch our
return Eurotunnel to the UK at 16:20 hrs. You are due to arrive back at the Stop 24 Folkestone Services
for 17:30 hrs.

The cost of your tour
The cost of our 5-day / 4-night In The Footsteps® Waterloo Anniversary Tour is:
Standard twin or double room (depending upon availablilty) in one of our 3-Star partner hotels
- Two people sharing a double or twin room — £1,235.00 GBP per person.
- Single occupancy in a standard twin room — £1,345.00 GBP per person.
A deposit of £300.00 GBP is payable in order to book your tour. The final balance is due 8 weeks
prior to your tour (20 April 2023).
Price per person based upon a minimum of 4 people and there will be a maximum of 8 per tour vehicle.
Please
note the tour will not go ahead if the minimum number do not book.

Accommodation
Your accommodation for your tour will in one of our partner hotels.
You will be told in which hotel you will be accommodated prior to booking your tour, please make
sure you are happy with it as changes may not be possible after booking.
Battlefield Historian
Your Battlefield Historian is an established member of our team and is experienced in leading tours to
the battlefields of the Napoleonic period.
The Battlefield Historian will meet you daily at your hotel reception prior to departure.
Financial Protection
Your money is safe. We are members ot the TTA and all monies paid to us are held in a trust account and cannot be drawn down by us until the tour is over.
