In the footsteps BATTLEFIELD TOURS

The Longbow Tour

The Battles of Crecy and Agincourt

A three-day/two-night tour of the Medieval battlefields at Crecy and Agincourt. At Crecy we examine Edward III's victory over Philip VI of France on 26th August 1346 that saw the rise to prominence of the English Longbow. At Agincourt we examine the victory by King Henry V over the French 69 years later on 25th October 1415 where the English Longbow was once again proved decisive.

Day One

We start our tour at the Dover Ferry Terminal and cross the English Channel. Drive from Calais to Abbeville where we book into our tour hotel.

Day Two

We spend today exploring the battlefield of Crecy and discussing the events that took place.

We begin at the River Somme fords used by King Edward’s Army at Blanchtaque prior to the battle before moving to the observation tower built upon the site of the windmill from which Edward III commanded the English.

After discussing the battle in general we walk the battlefield visiting the locations taken up by the Earl of Northampton’s Battle and the Battle commanded by the 16-year-old Prince of Wales.

We move on to look at the battlefield from the French perspective before returning to Abbeville for dinner in the evening.

Day Three

After checking out of our hotel we drive to Azincourt for our tour of the Battle of Agincourt battlefield.

We begin our Agincourt tour with a visit to the excellent Azincourt Visitor Centre Museum.

Following our museum visit we drive to the area of the English Camp on the night before the battle to discuss the English preparation and dispositions in the early morning of Saint Crispins Day 25th October 1415.

We then explore the battlefield looking at the part the topography played and discussing the various factors that led to King Henry V’s victory over a numerically superior French Army.

Following our tour we take lunch in Agincourt before heading back to Calais.

On our return to Calais we offer you the opportunity to call in at one of the many wine warehouses to top up on your supplies before entering the ferry port to catch our return ferry to Dover.
